Newport County narrowly missed out against Cheltenham Town as they suffered a 1-0 defeat away from home.
George Miller scored the only goal of the game after Mo Faal played the ball into the box, with the striker finishing low and central to seal the victory for Cheltenham.
This result leaves County one point from safety, with Barrow and Harrogate Town just behind them.
Christian Fuchs made just one change to the starting line-up following the 2-1 victory against Harrogate Town last week.
Last week’s man of the match Joe Thomas dropped out of the starting line-up and was replaced by Liam Shephard.
Steve Cotterill made two changes to the side that beat Gillingham 2-1 on Tuesday.
Arkell Jude-Boyd and Jake Bickerstaff made way for George Nurse and Ryan Broom.
Sven Sprangler had the first chance of the game after catching the opposition out in their defensive half and shooting from range, but the ball went over the bar.
Sprangler tried his luck again from distance with a powerful volley, but once more his effort flew over the bar.
Cheltenham had the biggest early chance just before the 15-minute mark, when Jordan Wright made an excellent save across goal to deny Jordan Thomas.
The Robins soon threatened again as a long throw fell to the feet of Isaac Hutchinson, but his half-volley was blocked by a teammate and cleared away.
Cheltenham continued to push as Luke Young’s corner found Jonathan Tomkinson in the box, but his shot went wide.
Another Young corner found Harry Ashfield, whose effort fell to Broom, but his touch was not enough to keep the ball on target.
Just before half-time, Harrison Biggins’ free kick found Matt Baker, whose header struck the crossbar to keep the score level.
James Crole also had an effort in added time, but Joe Day made an excellent save to deny Newport County the lead.
The first chance of the second half fell to Ben Lloyd, as a cleared corner dropped to him on the edge of the box, but he dragged his shot just wide.
A flurry of action followed as Cameron Evans’ shot was blocked and several crosses were delivered into the box, but no one could capitalise.
Substitute Mo Faal looked to make an impact as he found space, but his shot was comfortably saved by Wright.
Newport County hit the crossbar again when Biggins’ header struck the woodwork, with the rebound coming to nothing.
Evans soon had another opportunity as he tried to wrongfoot the goalkeeper, but his shot was blocked before reaching goal.
Cheltenham took the lead when Miller was played through in the box and calmly finished low and central.
Hutchinson came close to adding a second for Cheltenham but fired wide after finding space in the box.
Newport County could not make the most of the four minutes of added time as they fell to defeat on the road.
