Newport County suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Swindon Town in this afternoon’s Sky Bet League Two fixture at Rodney Parade.
Ollie Palmer’s 10th-minute strike proved to be the difference, as the Exiles were unable to find an equaliser despite a determined performance.
Early in the first half, the visitors broke the deadlock when Finley Munroe delivered a precise ball into the box for Palmer, who calmly slotted his effort beyond Nik Tzanev into the far corner.
Swindon would have another chance moments later as Joe Snowdon saw his effort comfortably caught by Tzanev.
Looking to get back into the game, Sammy Braybrooke sent the on-running Nathaniel Opoku through on goal with a lofted ball over the top, but the Leicester City loanee dragged his shot wide.
Paul Glatzel would fire his volley over the Exiles’ bar which saw the end to a relatively quiet first half.
Half-Time
Looking to build pressure, Kai Whitmore used some slick footwork to get himself into a shooting position, but the Welshman’s effort was deflected into the hands of Connor Ripley.
Michael Reindorf showed some immediate promise off the bench as his effort from the edge of the box curled just wide of the post.
Ollie Clarke looked to double the Robins’ lead, but the defender’s effort rattled off the crossbar.
Moments later, the ball was cut back to Swindon’s Palmer, but the experienced attacker fired the ball over bar.
Bobby Kamwa intercepted a loose back pass, but the winger’s shot was blocked and put out of play.
