Newport County were defeated 1-2 by MK Dons in this afternoon's Sky Bet League Two clash.
Habeeb Ogunneye put the Exiles in the lead with his first senior goal early in the first half. Nathaniel Mendez-Laing drew the sides level just before half-time.
Callum Paterson's cushioned header would prove to be the winning goal for the visitors.
MK Dons had the first chance of the outing as a cross from the right flank found Paterson in the six-yard box, but the Scotsman’s volley was hit over the bar.
Despite MK Don’s early pressure, it was the Exiles who took the lead as Ben Lloyd threaded Ogunneye through on goal and the Manchester United Loanee fired the ball home from a tight angle.
Newport continued their pressure as Lloyd tricky feat allowed him to work his way into the box but was unable to get his shot on target.
The Don’s responded as Mendez-Laing did well to been Ogunneye down the left flank and looked to cut the ball back into the box, a play which was read by Matt Smith and the midfielder cleared the chance.
Nik Tzanev was forced into a reaching save but could only parry it out as far as Will Collar, who’s volley was unbelievably cleared off the line by Smith.
Just before the end of the first half, MK Dons were given a penalty which Mendez-Laing took well to slot the ball into the bottom corner to get the Dons level at the break.
Half-Time
Paterson gave the Dons the lead early in the second half as his header found the bottom corner of the Exiles’ goal.
Just moments later, Bobby Kamwa’s curling effort was comfortably saved by MacGillivray, who got low to catch the ball.
Newport County were awarded a penalty mid-way through the half, but Kamwa was unable to convert the spot kick as he hit the post.
Lloyd played his free-kick short and Smith tried his luck from range with a thunderous strike but the effort was put just wide of the post.
In the dying moments of the match, Smith drilled the ball across the six-yard box and found Anthony Glennon at the back post, but the full back’s first timed shot was fired over the bar.
