Newport County end their string of loses with a 1-1 draw on the road to Tranmere Rovers in this afternoon's Sky Bet League Two clash.
Jayden Joseph scored his first career goal to open the score for the hosts in the first half.
Courtney Baker-Richardson's late volley sealed a point for Newport County away from home.
The first chance of the match fell to Newport as some good build-up play left Michael Reindorf in possession close to goal but the Exiles’ striker was blocked.
Newport continued their positive start as Bobby Kamwa and Cameron Antwi linked up well down the left flank, but Antwi’s low cross was cut out by the experienced Joe Murphy.
Despite being on the back foot, it was Tranmere who took the lead as some confusion at the back led to Tom Davies getting caught on the ball and Rovers’ Joseph tapped the ball past Nik Tzanev.
Joseph was back in action moments before the end of the first half as his cross found Connor Jennings, but the Tranmere striker was unable to get his header on target.
Half-Time
Moments after being subbed on, Tranmere’s Charlie Whitaker tried his luck from long range, but the fall sailed over the bar of Tzanev’s goal.
Habeeb Ogunneye was caught in possession on the half-way line and Omari Patrick seemed to be one-on-one with Tzanev, but Braybrooke did brilliantly to get in the way of the effort.
It was Patrick again who fired from just outside of the box, forcing Tzanev into a save and the follow-up shot was cleared off the line by Matt Baker.
Midway through the second half, Kamwa played a great cross and found Michael Spellman at the back post, but the winger put the ball just wide of the post.
Patrick’s first-time volley from close range rattled off the top of the crossbar and over for a goal-kick.
Baker-Richardson was immediately called into action having just been subbed on, flicking the ball onto Garner who found the back of the net, but the Linesman had his flag up for offside.
It was Baker-Richardson who found the equaliser for the Exiles as Spellman lays the ball off and the Newport striker snaps a first-timed volley into the bottom corner of Murphy’s goal.
