Oliver Greaves scored the only goal of the game as Newport County continued their pre-season preparations with a friendly win at Worcester City’s Sixways Stadium.
Greaves latched onto a cross from Cameron Evans after 34 minutes to coolly slot home what proved to be the winner.
Manager Dave Hughes gave a start to goalkeeper Jacob Carney against the Southern League Central side, with Lee Jenkins, captain James Clarke and Nelson Sanca in the heart of a three-man central defence.
Anthony Glennon and Cameron Evans were given the wing-back roles, with Kai Whitmore, Keenan Patten and a trialist in midfield.
Greaves and loan signing Michael Reindorf led the attack.
Also included on a strong bench were Academy players Amarni Babah and Miles Mackenzie.
It took time for Newport to settle in the scorching heat and artificial surface, before Oliver Greaves met a cross from the trialist only to see his header strike the bar with 10 minutes gone.
While Newport went on to dominate possession, chances were limited until the deadlock was finally broken in the 34th minute.
Michael Reindorf switched a long ball to Cameron Evans pushing forward on the right and when his cross eventually found Greaves inside the box, the striker kept his composure to create space and fire into the far corner from eight yards out.
Greaves could have had his second a minute before the break when Reindorf battled hard to play him through on goal. But goalkeeper Haydn Whitcombe made a good save.
Half-time: Worcester City 0 Newport County 1
Newport made four changes at the start of the second half with Matt Baker, Jaden Warner, Joe Thomas and Bobby Kamwa coming on. Academy product Amani Babah followed 10 minutes later as Warner limped off injured.
The home side started the second period well as Newport took time to settle after the changes. And it was Kyle Belmonte who created the first chance for Worcester as he flashed a long-range effort just over.
The visitors responded by bringing on Cameron Antwi and Moses Alexander-Walker for Greaves and Patten with 65 minutes on the clock.
Chances were still at a premium as the contest became scrappy in the heat, with Worcester finishing the stronger.
It was still another good run out for Dave Hughes’ side as the League Two season edged closer.
