PLAYLIST

We are going international with this Matchday playlist. This week, we feature songs that mention different places across the world, with music from the likes of The Clash, The Wombats, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Bastille, The K’s, Amsterdam, and more.

Starsick – Tom Emlyn

Tom Emlyn is a Welsh musician and songwriter whose work blends reflective lyricism with an understated, atmospheric sound. Rooted in storytelling, his music often explores themes of place, memory, and emotional quiet, drawing as much from the landscapes of Wales as from inner experience. As an artist, he values authenticity and process, treating songwriting as a way of paying attention to the world and giving shape to moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed. His work sits comfortably between folk and contemporary songwriting, marked by a calm confidence and a strong sense of identity. Starsick is his latest single, set for release on Friday 30 January, and his first release on Dirty Carrot Records.

Grey Skies – Yon Mon & Bazza Trash

A staple of the Manchester indie music scene, Grey Skies is the latest single from Yon Mon, the solo project of much-loved former The Shed Project frontman Roy Fletcher. The alias ‘Yon Mon’ is taken from an old Northern England saying meaning “What’s he up to?”. Blending driving rhythms, textured guitars, and hook-heavy melodies, Yon Mon creates a sound that feels both familiar and fresh, rooted in alternative rock but unafraid to experiment. Grey Skies features Bazza Trash, guitarist from Scottish rockers Box of Trash.

Watching You – The Covasettes

The Covasettes are an indie-rock four-piece from Manchester, formed in 2017 while the members were studying at university around the city’s vibrant student area of Fallowfield. The lineup features frontman and lead vocalist Chris Buxton, guitarist Matt Hewlett, bassist and producer Jamie McIntyre, and drummer Matt Buckley. Musically, the band blend classic indie rock energy with pop-leaning sensibilities, crafting songs built around vibrant guitar work, rhythmic punch, and emotionally resonant vocals. Watching You is the band’s latest single, released on Friday, and is taken from their debut album Honeymoon Forever, which is set for release on April 10.
