There is another genre theme to this week’s Matchday Playlist. For the visit of Fleetwood there is a Punk theme as we play songs from the likes of Idles, Rancid, The Hives, Fall Out Boy, The Clash, Supergrass, Iggy Pop, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, AFI and more!
Kicking off by Jump The Underground
An indie rock band originally from Newport known for their energetic guitar-driven sound and compelling live performances. They first emerged in the mid-2000s, quickly becoming a memorable part of the South Wales music scene with a devoted local fanbase and buzz-worthy shows across venues like TJ’s, Le Pub and Cardiff’s Barfly. After more than a decade away, Jump the Underground reunited in 2024, marking their long-anticipated return with a sold-out show at The Corn Exchange in Newport. Their comeback was greeted with enthusiasm from fans old and new, showcasing both classic material and fresh new songs. They are set to release new music with “Wifi Code” set for release soon.
Miss Victim by Hairdye
This is an up and coming young punk band from right here in Newport, Hairdye are making waves on the local music scene ever since forming in 2024. HairDye has quickly made an impact on Newport's music scene. They have performed at several local events, including the 2024 Newport Food Festival and this year’s Summer Sessions event at Beechwood Park. Miss Victim is taken off their debut EP which is available for purchase now. It was produced by Dub War’s Richard Glover and recorded at Xile Studios, Newport it’s raw, gritty, loud. Dirty bassline. Britpop guitar jangle. Drums that sound like a juggernaut and relatable lyrics.
Something More by All The Young
These are an alternative/indie rock band from Stoke-on-Trent, known for their emotive songwriting and energetic guitar-driven sound. Formed in 2009 by brothers Ryan Dooley (vocals, guitar) and Jack Dooley (bass, vocals), the duo began playing together as teenagers at school talent shows and local venues, honing a sound rooted in classic British rock influences. In April 2012, All the Young released their acclaimed debut album Welcome Home, recorded in Vancouver. All the Young toured extensively across the UK and beyond, performing at major festivals and supporting acts like Morrissey, Kaiser Chiefs, The Courteeners, The Wombats, and The 1975. Their music has also been used on television, with tracks featured across sports and documentary programming.
