Head coach Nelson Jardim admitted his side “need to toughen up” after their 2-1 defeat at Chesterfield on Saturday afternoon.
Matt Baker gave the Exiles the lead in the tie before two quick-fire goals from Ollie Banks and Aribim Pepple condemned County to defeat in Derbyshire.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game and the first half was quite even in terms of opportunities,” he said post-match.
“We had the best one with Ajiboye, then we scored but we conceded two soft goals.
“This is happening [too often] and there is a lack of consistency in away games. I have told them that we need to grow up and toughen up.
“We cannot use the excuse of being a young team because they have grown, they are old enough now to stop that.
“In the second half we tried a couple of things, we didn’t create as much as we wanted. When you concede two goals just before half-time like that it sets the tone for the second half.
“It's one less chance that these boys have to show that they are improving. I was so disappointed with the goals and it was a huge punishment after all that effort.”
He added: “Every game is winnable with the right mentality and attitude.
“We finished the game with young boys but they are good players and need to perform in a consistent manner.
“That's for their career - they have to stand up and grow as quickly as possible.
“They cannot be at their best on a Tuesday and then not perform at the same level on a Saturday, and fatigue is not an excuse.”
