Nelson Sanca signs first professional deal with Newport County

Nelson Sanca has become the latest young talent at Newport County to sign a first professional deal with the club.

The defender has penned a two-year deal with the Exiles and follows in the footsteps of fellow academy graduate, Jac Norris, who signed professional terms earlier last month.

The 17-year-old joined the club last summer on scholarship terms, having previously come through the ranks at Canton Football Club in the Ardal Leagues.

He went on to have an impressive maiden campaign in NP19, playing a pivotal part in the under-18s' FAW Youth Cup run to the quarter finals, before making his first team debut against Tranmere Rovers back in April.

After an impressive first-team debut at Rodney Parade, Sanca went on to start County’s last two league fixtures, as well as winning the club's academy’s Player of the Year award.

His showings have seen him rewarded with professional terms, and he is keen to kick on from a notable career milestone.

I’m absolutely delighted,” said Sanca after signing the deal.

“I think it’s been a really good season for me and I can’t thank everyone enough for their support.

“Last season I came from grassroots, and I couldn’t have imagined to have been in this position almost a year later.

“Training and playing with the first team last year really helped my development. It gave me the opportunity to develop my weaknesses and become a better player.

“Making my debut against Tranmere in April was an amazing feeling. Playing in front of the fans and my family was brilliant, and is something you dream of.

“The academy has been brilliant to be a part of since I joined. They’ve played a huge part in my development and have always been there for me.

“Next season for me is just about kicking on once again. Work hard with the first team and try and play as many games as possible."

Congratulations, Nelson!
