Newport County is delighted to confirm the loan signing of defender Alfie Merritt from Bournemouth.
The 18-year-old left-back joins Rodney Parade for the 2026-27 season after impressing during a recent trial period with the club, which included a starting appearance in Tuesday’s memorable pre-season friendly against AS Roma.
Merritt arrives with first-team experience already under his belt after spending the second half of last season on loan with AFC Totton.
During his time with the National League South side, the defender made 13 appearances and scored once, gaining valuable senior football experience.
A product of Bournemouth’s academy system, Merritt has continued his development with regular involvement around first-team environments and now joins Hayden Mullins’ squad as preparations continue for the new campaign.
