Shaquille Gwengwe admitted it was a tough afternoon for County but praised the collective effort from the squad as they battled to secure a point.
"It was really tough. The boys were brilliant today. I don't think we were at our best, but that's football. We went one down and weren't in a good place, but to a man, we all put a shift in today and thankfully came away with a point."
The forward also spoke about his belief that another opportunity would come his way, with his late finish rescuing a point for County.
"Always. Especially as a striker, you've always got to believe you're going to get a chance. In my mind, I was just trying to stay in there until the opportunity came. Thankfully, it did. I trusted my gut instinct and scored the second goal."
Gwengwe admitted that scoring so late made the result feel even more significant, particularly with the County supporters heading home with something to celebrate.
"Definitely. Last-minute goals are always great. It would have been a shame if we had got nothing from that game, so sending the fans home with something to cheer about is really important."
With County unbeaten in their opening two home games, Gwengwe highlighted the importance of making Rodney Parade a difficult venue for visiting sides.
"I think it's very important. We're trying to make Rodney Parade a fortress, trying to make it a really hard place to come to. We're not going to give anyone anything easily."
The striker has enjoyed an impressive start to life at County but insists his focus remains firmly on continuing to contribute for the team.
"I'm just doing my job. I'm trying not to think too much or read too much into all of that. Like I've said to you guys before, it's just goals, goals, goals. How many can I get? And now it's just onto the next one."
Gwengwe also joked about the debate surrounding County's first goal, firmly claiming the opener as his own.
"No, it was definitely my goal. It was over the line before the defender got there. I'm not going to disagree now! That was definitely my goal. I'm claiming that one, so yeah."
Attention now turns to Tuesday's trip to Salford City, with Gwengwe expecting another demanding test as County look to build on their unbeaten start.
"Obviously, they're a perennial challenger. No game in the league is easy, no matter who you're playing. It's going to be another big fight. Obviously, we're going there in a really, really good place, so we'll see what happens."
