Newport County forward Shaquille Gwengwe has received his first international call-up for Malawi.

The 25-year-old joined Newport County from Poole Town this summer and has made an impressive start to life in the Football League.

Gwengwe has scored four goals in seven appearances so far this season, with his performances earning him a nomination for the League Two Player of the Month award for August.

The forward, who arrived at Rodney Parade as a striker but has featured predominantly out wide, will now have the opportunity to represent his country for the first time.

Gwengwe has been called up to the Malawi squad for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Sudan and Angola.

Malawi face South Sudan on Friday, September 25 before travelling to Angola for their second fixture on Tuesday, October 6.

His international call-up means Gwengwe will miss Newport County's League Two fixtures against Grimsby Town and Gillingham, as well as the Football League Trophy meeting with Plymouth.

Congratulations, Shaquille!
