As Newport County take on Notts County at Meadow Lane this Monday, let’s take a look back at past players who have shared the shirts of the Exiles and the Magpies.

Ciaran Brennan

Ciaran Brennan played for Notts County for a short period of time early on in his career before playing for his current team, Newport.

Brennan joined Notts County on loan from Sheffield Wednesday for just under two months. During his time at the club he only played in four games in which he started each game. Brennan kept one clean sheet during his four games. Brennan would go on to remain at Sheffield Wednesday for the rest of the season.

However, in the summer of 2024 the Irishman left Sheffield Wednesday and joined County. During his time at the club, Brennan has played in 56 games and has had the honour to captain the side during Newport’s FA Cup defeat against Boreham Wood.

David Pipe

David Pipe who has had many stints at Newport has also played for the Magpies at the beginning of his career.

Pipe joined Notts County in 2004 after leaving Coventry City and would stay at the club for three and a half years. During his time at the club Pipe played in 149 games as he was a regular starter. Furthermore, the former Welsh international scored four goals whilst at Notts County as well as having eight assists.

After his time at Notts County, Pipe would join Newport four years later. The Welshman had three different stints at the club with his first stint being the most memorable as he was part of the side that won the National League playoff final against Wrexham. Pipe also played against Tottenham, Leeds, Leicester and Middlesbrough during historic FA Cup runs.

Scot Bennett

Scot Bennett who currently plays for Weston Super Mare has had memorable stints at Newport as well as the Magpies.

Bennett first joined Notts County in the summer of 2015 from Exeter City but only featured seven times for the club as he featured in six league games as well as starting in a League Cup game in a 2-1 win against Huddersfield Town.

However, Bennett first joined Newport in October 2015 on loan from Notts County where he stayed for two months. During the two-month stint he played in 15 games and scored a goal against Brackley Town in the first round of the FA Cup.

The Englishman joined Newport permanently from Notts County in 2016 and including his loan, he played in 367 games scoring 12 goals and providing seven assists. Bennett was also a part of the historic ‘Great Escape’ team that beat Notts County on the last day of the season to avoid relegation.
