Keenan Patten is a Welsh midfielder who joined Newport County in February 2025, signing an eighteen-month contract after an impressive spell with Barry Town United. A versatile and dynamic midfielder, Patten is comfortable operating in both attacking and defensive roles and brings experience of the Cymru Premier, National League North and English Football League.
Born on April 7, 2001 in Cardiff, Wales, Patten joined Cardiff City's academy at the age of nine and progressed through the club's youth system. He signed a scholarship in 2017 before earning a professional contract in 2019.
Patten gained his first taste of senior football during loan spells with Penybont and Hereford. He made two appearances for Penybont during the 2019-20 season before spending the 2021-22 campaign with Hereford in the National League North, where he made 15 appearances.
In August 2022, Patten joined AFC Fylde on a permanent basis before moving to Barry Town United in June 2023. He quickly established himself as an important player in the Cymru Premier, combining his energy and technical ability with an eye for goal.
Patten enjoyed an especially productive first half of the 2024-25 season with Barry Town United, scoring 10 goals in 26 appearances before making the move to Newport County.
He made his Newport County debut on February 8, 2025, coming on as a second-half substitute during a 3-0 League Two victory over Crewe Alexandra. Patten went on to make six appearances for Newport County during the closing stages of the 2024-25 season.
The midfielder's 2025-26 campaign was unfortunately disrupted by a serious injury. Patten suffered an open leg fracture during a pre-season friendly against Bristol City in July 2025 and required surgery, beginning a lengthy rehabilitation period.
After returning to fitness, Patten joined former club Barry Town United on loan in February 2026 to regain match fitness and competitive minutes. He made seven appearances for Barry during the remainder of the 2025-26 Cymru Premier season.
Patten returned to Newport County for the 2026-27 season after agreeing a new contract with the club. Having overcome a significant injury and returned to competitive football, he will be looking to establish himself as an important member of the Newport County midfield.
At international level, Patten has represented Wales at youth level, featuring for the under-17s and under-19s. His versatility allows him to operate in a variety of midfield positions, offering energy, technical quality and the ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch.
