Jordan Wright joined Newport County in June 2025, bringing a wealth of experience from across the English Football League. Standing at 1.91 metres (6'3"), the goalkeeper is known for his commanding presence in the penalty area, shot-stopping ability and composure under pressure.
Born on February 27, 1999 in Stoke-on-Trent, Wright began his career with Nottingham Forest, progressing through the club's youth ranks before gaining senior experience through loan spells with Alfreton Town, Alloa Athletic and Hereford.
In January 2022, Wright joined Lincoln City on a permanent deal and made his senior debut in March that year. His performances quickly earned recognition, with Wright nominated for the EFL Cup Player of the Round in September 2022 following an impressive display against Barrow. He saved three penalties in the resulting shootout and produced several important saves during the match.
In June 2024, Wright joined Grimsby Town on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee. He made 37 appearances for the club during the 2024-25 season before moving to Newport County in June 2025.
Wright established himself as Newport County's first-choice goalkeeper during the 2025-26 season, making 35 League Two appearances and playing 3,150 minutes. He also featured in the FA Cup, EFL Cup and EFL Trophy, taking his total appearances across all competitions to 39.
His first season at Rodney Parade saw Wright play a key role in helping Newport County retain their League Two status. He finished the campaign having made 35 league starts, providing consistency and experience between the posts throughout the season, as well as making a number of key penalty saves. His most notable came in the final match of the season against Barrow, when he saved a penalty to keep Newport County in the match.
Heading into the 2026-27 campaign, Wright remains an important part of the Newport County squad, bringing valuable EFL experience and a strong presence behind the club's defensive line.
