Lee Jenkins joined Newport County in June 2025, signing from Haverfordwest County after establishing himself as one of the standout defenders in the Cymru Premier. The centre-back arrived at Rodney Parade with more than 200 senior appearances in Welsh football, as well as international experience with Wales C.
Born on August 30, 2001 in Aberaeron, Wales, Jenkins began his senior career with Aberystwyth Town, making his first-team debut at just 16 years old. He went on to make more than 70 appearances for the club before moving to Haverfordwest County in 2022.
During his three seasons at Haverfordwest County, Jenkins developed into an important figure at the heart of their defence. He made more than 100 appearances in all competitions and was named in the Cymru Premier Team of the Season after an impressive 2024-25 campaign, in which he missed just one league match through suspension.
Jenkins also enjoyed a memorable European campaign with Haverfordwest County. In July 2023, he scored an 89th-minute equaliser against KF Shkëndija in a UEFA Europa Conference League qualifier at Cardiff City Stadium. Haverfordwest County went on to win the tie on penalties, with Jenkins playing a key role in their historic European run.
His performances in Wales earned international recognition, with Jenkins representing Wales C on two occasions. He played the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 victory over England C in March 2025, helping Wales C keep a clean sheet.
Jenkins made his Newport County debut on July 29, 2025, starting in the EFL Cup preliminary round victory over Barnet. He quickly established himself as a regular option in the Newport County defence during his first season in the English Football League.
The 2025-26 campaign proved to be an impressive first season at Rodney Parade. Jenkins made 35 League Two appearances, including 32 starts, playing 2,807 minutes. He scored one goal and provided two assists, while also recording four yellow cards. His defensive performances, aerial ability and consistency made him one of Newport County's most important players throughout the campaign.
Jenkins scored his first Newport County goal in March 2026, finding the net in a 2-1 defeat against Colchester United. He finished the season having featured in 35 league matches and established himself as a key part of the squad heading into the 2026-27 campaign.
With his strong foundations in Welsh football, experience at European level and successful transition into the EFL, Jenkins continues to develop as an important defensive figure for Newport County.
