Nik Tzanev joined Newport County in June 2025, bringing a wealth of experience from across the English Football League. Standing at 1.95 metres (6'5"), the New Zealand international goalkeeper is known for his commanding presence in the penalty area and his ability to make crucial saves under pressure.

Born on 23rd December 1996 in Wellington, New Zealand, Tzanev moved to Auckland at the age of three and later to London in 2006. He began his football journey at Chelsea's development programme, before moving on to Crystal Palace and then Brentford's academy. At Brentford, he progressed through the youth ranks and earned the club's Youth Team Player of the Year award for the 2014–15 season. He made 39 appearances for the youth team during the final three seasons of his youth career.

Tzanev's senior career began with Brentford in 2015, though he did not make a league appearance. He spent time on loan at Lewes, making six appearances, before moving to AFC Wimbledon in 2017. Over the next seven years, he made 126 appearances for Wimbledon, establishing himself as a key figure in the team's defence. During his time at Wimbledon, he also had loan spells at Potters Bar Town and Sutton United, gaining valuable experience.

In 2024, Tzanev signed a one-year contract with League One club Northampton Town, where he made 17 appearances during the 2024–25 season. Following his time at Northampton, he joined Newport County on a free transfer in June 2025, aiming to continue his career in League Two.

Internationally, Tzanev has represented New Zealand at various youth levels, including the U20 team at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He made his senior debut for the All Whites in 2018 and has earned two caps, most recently starting in a 1–1 draw against DR Congo in October 2023.

With his extensive experience in English football and international exposure, Tzanev is poised to make a significant impact at Newport County, combining his shot-stopping ability with leadership and composure to strengthen the team's defensive line.
