Gerard Garner joined Newport County in June 2025 on a two-year contract following the expiration of his deal at Barrow. Standing at 1.88m, Garner offers a commanding presence in the attacking third.
Born on 2 November 1998 in Liverpool, England, Garner began his career at Fleetwood Town, making his senior debut in 2018. He spent time on loan at Southport, Bamber Bridge, FC United of Manchester, and Gateshead, gaining valuable experience in non-league football. In January 2023, he signed for Barrow for a club-record transfer fee, where he made 50 appearances and scored 7 goals over two seasons. During his time at Barrow, Garner had two loan spells at Morecambe, in January 2024 and February 2025, further honing his skills.
Garner made his debut for Newport County in the EFL Cup preliminary round against Barnet on 29 July 2025. He scored his first goal for the club in his league debut on 2 August 2025, a 1–1 draw against Notts County.
Known for his aerial ability and physicality, Garner is a versatile forward capable of playing across the front line. His experience and attributes make him a valuable asset to Newport County's attacking options.
