Liam Shephard rejoined Newport County in August 2025, returning to Rodney Parade after previously representing the club during the 2020–21 season. A versatile defender capable of playing both at right-back and centre-back, Shephard brings valuable experience and leadership to the Exiles’ back line.
Born on 22 November 1994 in Pentre, Wales, Shephard came through the academies at Cardiff City and Swansea City, before enjoying a series of loan spells at Yeovil Town where he made his Football League breakthrough. He went on to represent Peterborough United and Forest Green Rovers, gaining a reputation as a dependable and hard-working defender.
Shephard first signed for Newport County in 2020 and became a regular in the side, making over 40 league appearances and playing a key role in the team that reached the League Two play-off final at Wembley. Following his successful season with the Exiles, he joined Salford City, where he spent four years and made more than 70 appearances.
In 2025 Shephard returned to Newport County and made an instant impact, scoring in a 2-1 away win at Crawley Town early in the campaign. His defensive organisation, energy, and aerial threat make him an important figure for the squad as the team looks to build on its ambitions for the season ahead.
