Austrian midfielder Sven Sprangler joined Newport County on loan from Scottish Championship side St Johnstone in February 2026 for the remainder of the 2025–26 season.

Born on 27 March 1995, Sprangler is a composed and intelligent central midfielder who brings energy, discipline and tactical awareness to the middle of the park. Comfortable both breaking up play and progressing the ball forward, he adds balance and structure to the Exiles’ midfield options.

Sprangler signed a two-year contract with St Johnstone in September 2023 and gained valuable experience in Scottish football before making the move to Rodney Parade.

He made his Newport County debut in the starting line-up for the 0-0 Sky Bet League Two draw against Grimsby Town on 7 February 2026, immediately demonstrating his work rate and composure in possession.

A technically assured operator with a strong engine, Sprangler strengthens County’s midfield as the club pushes through the second half of the campaign.
