Cole Jarvis joined Newport County in February 2026 on a permanent transfer from National League North side Merthyr Town for an undisclosed fee. The versatile midfielder and forward arrived at Rodney Parade after an impressive first half of the 2025-26 season, bringing a strong record of goals and assists from the National League North.
Born on July 15, 2001, Jarvis began his football journey with Merthyr Town, progressing through the club's academy before developing his career across the Welsh football pyramid. He went on to represent Risca United, Llanrumney United, Cardiff Corinthians and Newport City before returning to Merthyr Town in 2024.
Jarvis enjoyed an impressive 2024-25 campaign with Merthyr Town, making 47 appearances across all competitions and scoring 10 goals. His performances continued to attract attention during the following season, as he established himself as an important player for the club in the National League North.
During the first half of the 2025-26 campaign, Jarvis registered seven goals and five assists in 29 appearances for Merthyr Town before earning his move into the English Football League with Newport County.
Jarvis made his Newport County debut on February 7, 2026, coming on as a substitute in the goalless League Two draw with Grimsby Town. He made his first league start one week later against Milton Keynes Dons and went on to feature regularly during the second half of the campaign.
Jarvis made 11 League Two appearances for Newport County during the 2025-26 season, including one start. While he did not find the net during his first half-season in the EFL, his performances demonstrated the versatility, physicality and attacking ability that had made him such an effective player in the National League North.
One of his most important contributions came in the dramatic 3-2 victory over Oldham Athletic at Rodney Parade. Jarvis was introduced at half-time and played an important role in the attacking pressure during the closing stages, while he also provided the assist for Bobby Kamwa's late winner against Oldham.
Comfortable operating in both midfield and attack, Jarvis offers Newport County flexibility across the forward line and midfield. His ability to carry the ball, compete physically and contribute in the final third makes him an exciting prospect as he continues his transition into EFL football.
Now 25, Jarvis enters the 2026-27 season as a permanent Newport County player and will be looking to build on his first taste of League Two football and establish himself as an important member of the squad.
