Player Biography

Daniel Sassi joined Newport County in July 2026, signing following a successful loan spell with Altrincham during the 2025-26 season. The commanding centre-back arrives at Rodney Parade with experience across the National League and EFL, having developed through the academies at Stoke City and Burnley before making the move into senior football.

Born on December 8, 2003 in Uttoxeter, Sassi began his youth career with Stoke City before joining Burnley in 2020. He progressed through Burnley's academy and became captain of the club's under-21s during the 2022-23 campaign, while also gaining experience around the first-team squad.

Sassi joined Blackpool on a permanent deal in February 2024 and immediately began gaining senior experience through loan spells. He spent the second half of the 2023-24 season with Rochdale, making 10 appearances across all competitions, before returning to the club on loan during the first half of the 2024-25 campaign.

In January 2025, Sassi joined AFC Fylde for the remainder of the season, making six appearances before returning to Blackpool.

Sassi spent the entire 2025-26 campaign on loan with Altrincham, establishing himself as an important member of their defence. He made 41 appearances across all competitions, including 37 starts, and played 3,307 minutes. He also registered two assists and received seven yellow cards. In the National League alone, he made 34 starts from 38 appearances, while also featuring in the FA Cup.

Standing at 1.94 metres (6'4"), Sassi provides a strong physical presence at the heart of the defence. His performances at Altrincham earned praise from manager Neil Gibson, who described him as exactly the type of defender the club wanted after his initial loan spell was extended until the end of the season.

Now 22, Sassi arrives at Newport County at an important stage of his development. Comfortable at centre-back and capable of operating at right-back, he offers defensive strength, aerial ability and experience beyond his years as he begins the next chapter of his career in League Two.
