Defender Matty Jacob joined Newport County on loan from Premier League side Hull City late in the summer transfer window.
Born on 3 June 2001, Jacob joined Hull City’s academy at the age of eight and progressed through the club’s youth system. He also spent time with Pickering Town on work experience before continuing his development with Hull City.
Jacob made his senior debut for Hull City during the 2023–24 campaign and went on to establish himself in the first-team squad. He scored his first goal for the Tigers in an FA Cup tie against Birmingham City and signed a new three-year contract with the club in March 2024.
The left-back has gained valuable experience through loan spells with Gateshead and Reading. During his time with Gateshead in the 2021–22 season, Jacob made 37 appearances and helped the club win the National League North title. He then joined Reading on a season-long loan in July 2025, making 16 appearances before returning to Hull City in January 2026.
Jacob joined Newport County at the start of September 2026 on a season-long loan, bringing further Championship and League One experience to the Exiles' squad.
A left-footed defender capable of contributing at both ends of the pitch, Jacob offers defensive solidity, energy and an attacking threat from the left side.
