Kion Etete joined Newport County on summer transfer deadline day, signing on a season-long loan from Cardiff City for the 2026/27 campaign.
Born in Derby on 28 November 2001, Etete began his professional career at Notts County, making his senior debut during the 2018/19 season. His performances at youth level earned him a move to Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in 2019, where he continued his development through the club’s academy system.
During his time in north London, the forward impressed in Tottenham’s youth sides, scoring regularly for the Under-18s and Under-23s. Looking to gain valuable first-team experience, Etete spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Northampton Town in League Two, where he scored six goals in 23 appearances across all competitions. He subsequently joined Cheltenham Town on loan in League One, registering three goals in 13 league appearances.
In August 2022, Etete completed a permanent move to Cardiff City, returning to Wales to continue his development. He made an immediate impact with the Bluebirds, scoring three league goals during his debut season in the Championship. He followed this with another three league goals in the 2023/24 campaign, establishing himself as an option in Cardiff’s forward line.
Etete made 56 league appearances for Cardiff City in the Championship, scoring six goals, before heading out on loan to Bolton Wanderers in January 2025. He later joined Rotherham United for the first half of the 2025/26 season, gaining further experience in League One, before spending the second half of the campaign with Scottish Premiership side St Mirren.
Standing at 6ft 6in, Etete offers a physical presence in attack and brings experience from across the English Football League and Scottish Premiership. His time at several clubs has provided him with opportunities to develop his game and adapt to different playing environments.
The striker now arrives at Rodney Parade to link up with Newport County for the 2026/27 season, where he will look to contribute to the team's attacking options and make his mark in amber and black.
