Joe Thomas joined Newport County in July 2024, signing a two-year contract that will keep him at Rodney Parade until the summer of 2026. A versatile full-back, he operates primarily on the right flank and has the ability to influence both ends of the pitch with his energy and attacking instincts.

Born on 12 March 2002 in Pontypridd, Wales, Thomas began his football journey with Cambrian & Clydach in the Cymru South, joining their academy at age 12. He made a significant impact in his final season there, registering six assists—the highest in the league—and astonishingly scoring a hat-trick from right-back in a match against Taffs Well. In January 2022 he moved to Swansea City’s under-21 side, continuing his development before making the move to Newport County in mid-2024.

Joe made his debut for the Exiles in an EFL Trophy match against Reading on 12 November 2024. He then made his League Two debut on 23 November 2024 in a goalless draw with Notts County. His first goal for Newport came on 4 February 2025 in a 2–1 win over Morecambe. Over the course of the season he featured regularly, making 26 league appearances and scoring once. At 1.90 metres tall and right-footed, he brings both physical presence and technical ability to Newport’s defensive shape.

With club number 12, Thomas combines defensive awareness, crossing ability and forward forays to make a dynamic contribution to the squad. His versatility allows him to perform in traditional full-back roles and as a more attacking wing-back when required
