Cameron Evans joined Newport County in July 2024, signing a two-year contract following a prolific spell in non-league and the Irish leagues. The versatile defender brings youth, technical poise and defensive intelligence to the Exiles.
Born on 23 February 2001 in Swansea, Wales, Evans developed through Swansea City’s academy and made his senior debut in an EFL Cup match in January 2021. In 2021 he spent a season on loan with Waterford in the League of Ireland, making 30 league appearances and scoring once in cup competition. He had a brief spell at Sligo Rovers before moving to Taunton Town, where he enjoyed regular senior football over the 2022–24 seasons.
Evans made his Newport County debut in August 2024 in an EFL Cup match against Leyton Orient and soon added a first league goal for the club with a decisive, goal of the month winning, strike in a 2–1 win over Crewe Alexandra in September. By early August 2025 he had made 33 league appearances and scored four goals.
The 1.82 m right-footed full-back, wearing shirt number 2 this season, is comfortable playing across the backline and is comfortbale setting into midfield as an option.
Internationally he has represented Wales at under-19 level, earning nine caps in that age group.
Upon arriving at Rodney Parade he remarked that the club’s philosophy suited him well, and has become a notable favourite with fans.
With a strong foundation in academy training, senior experience across multiple leagues and growing contributions in the Football League, Cameron Evans looks destined to be a key part of Newport County’s squad in the seasons ahead.
