Newport County AFC are saddened to hear of the recent passing of Mike McLaughlin...
Mike made more than 100 appearances for County in three separate spells between 1959 and 1978.
During his career he famously captained Hereford United in their famous FA Cup victory over Newcastle United in 1972 and also played for Merthyr, Barry Town, Lovells Athletic and Cheltenham Town. Mike crossed over into rugby union and had a spell playing for Newport Saracens.
Mike moved to America in 1979 where he ran the Atlanta Renegades rugby union side, but after returning he was a regular at County games in recent years.
His funeral will be held on Friday at 10am at St Mary's Church, Stow Hill, Newport.
We wish to pass our condolences to Mike's family and friends at this difficult time.
