Chris Gadsby takes a look at our League Two opponents for the 2015/16 season......
Full Name:Mansfield Town Football Club
Nickname: The Stags
Founded: 1897
Ground: The One Call Stadium (Capacity 10,000)
Record against County: Played 10, Won 4, Drawn 2, Lost 4, Goals For 16, Goals Against 13
Last Season: 21st – Mansfield were never really in too much danger last season, only occupying one of the bottom two places for a single game over the course of it. Like many of the sides towards the bottom of the league, it was the Stags away form that saw them at the wrong end of the table. They had the worst away record in the league scoring only 13 points away from home all season, a stat not helped by them having the worst attack in the league along with it. The positive that Mansfield can take from last year was their defence at home, conceding 24 goals from the 23 games and having the 10th best record in that category.
Key Player: Goals are clearly the key aspect that Mansfield need to improve on next year and Craig Westcarr has completed his Nottinghamshire triple by signing for the Stags from Portsmouth. Having played for Nottingham Forest and Notts County previously in his career, Westcarr returns to the midlands with his eyes on ‘pushing for a promotion place,’ he told the Stags’ website.
Fixtures: October 10th (A) February 27th (H)
Prediction: If Mansfield can sort their goal scoring problems out that they had last year then they have the potential for a really good season. The key for the Stags will be picking up more points away from home. 8 of their away losses were by a single goal and if they can be more prolific in front of goal then there is no reason why they cannot achieve a mid-table finish.
