COUNTY SECURE BEN DAVIES ON LOAN

7 January 2016

The Exiles secure the loan signing of Ben Davies from Preston North End…

Newport County AFC can today announce the loan signing of defender Ben Davies from Championship outfit Preston North End.

The defender has experience of playing in League Two, having previously played at this level during loan spells with both Tranmere Rovers and York City.

Ben spent time with Southport earlier this season in the Vanarama National League, making eight appearances for the before being recalled by Preston North End.

Speaking after the deal to sign the defender had been agreed, Manager John Sheridan said, “I have always liked Ben.”

“I remember from back when I was at Plymouth that he did really well at York City and even helped them get into the play-offs.”

“I know that he has a good understanding of this division and I think he is unfortunate not to be playing regularly for Preston.”

“Ben has done well in this division before and this move is an opportunity for him to play some games and I am really glad that we have got him here.”

Ben’s loan deal will run until our home fixture against Carlisle United. During his time with the Exiles the defender will take part in our Sky Bet League Two fixtures against Dagenham and Redbridge and both our trips to York City and Morecambe.

The defender will also be eligible for Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup tie against Blackburn Rovers at Rodney Parade, subject to international clearance.

Speaking about having Ben available for Saturday’s game, John added, “It was important that he wasn’t cup tied before joining us. Hopefully Ben will come in and hit the ground running.”

“Saturday will be a big game for him against Blackburn, but I am very confident that he will do well for us.”

Cardiff duo Jazzi Barnum-Bobb and Tommy O’Sullivan have both returned to Cardiff following the expiry of their loan deals.

The Club would like to thank both Jazzi and Tommy for their efforts during their time with the club.

Manager John Sheridan is in the process of assessing a number of areas, in order to strengthen the squad during the January transfer window.
