As we celebrate International Women's Day each year, we thank all of the amazing women in our Club who work, volunteer and support us.
This year we would like to highlight and celebrate one lady in particular who has been an incredible support to our Club over the last six years. Now, she is a familiar face to all of our players and supporters, and certainly an important part of our team here at Newport County AFC.
Nicola, in that pink bib, with an infectious smile, and huge camera lens hanging over her shoulder captures incredible memories for us here at the Club. Having been an official club photographer since August 2017 where she photographed her first competitive game for Newport County AFC against Crewe Alexandra in a one-all draw. During that time, it is estimated she has attended over 320 fixtures, both home and away.
Nic creates a gallery for the club’s social media pages, to ensure that fans who are unable to attend the game can see what goes on from a pitch side point of view, whilst providing a catalogue of memories for all! But why does she do this, and why Newport County AFC?
Nicola responds ‘It started as I was chauffeuring my son around when he was playing youth football, and then Welsh League games and I started to capture pictures of him and his team mates. I have always loved photographing wildlife, and then I was asked by a few Clubs to do some photography for them, and that’s when I started to take it a bit more seriously. I saw the advert for Club Photographers at Newport County AFC, so I submitted a portfolio, attended an interview and got the job. I have been volunteering ever since.
I love photography and I love the County, it has just felt like being part of a family – in all honesty that’s the bit I love!’
We are so proud that Nicola is a part of our Club, and as such we have nominated her for an ‘EFL Supporter of the Season award’ for her dedication to the Club and the work that she does around fan engagement.
Next time you see her, make sure to give Nicola a wave and a smile for a picture. We thank her for her commitment and dedication and wish her every success in the awards.
