Newport County defender Cameron Norman says he is “really excited” to be back at Rodney Parade after completing his return to the club ahead of the 2026-27 season.

The full-back returns to South Wales following a highly successful previous spell in amber, where he became a key figure and established a strong connection with the club and supporters.

Speaking in his first interview after rejoining Newport County, Norman said returning to the club felt like the right move at this stage of his career.

“Really good, really excited. To be honest, I love this place. I had two really good years here, probably two of my favourite years in my professional football career.

“It’s just a nice feeling walking back through, coming into the changing room, seeing the pitch, I’ve got a lot of good memories here, so I’m really excited.”

Norman made a strong impact during his previous spell at Rodney Parade, where he was recognised with back-to-back Player of the Year awards.

Reflecting on that period, he said it remains one of the most enjoyable stages of his career.

“It was everything at the time. I didn’t really know the club very well when I first signed, but it turned out to be a great decision.

“I played a lot of games, got to 100 appearances, which I was really proud of. I just enjoyed being out there every week, especially at home, and the backing from the fans really stood out.”

Now returning to Newport County, Norman believes he can add both experience and consistency to the squad.

“I feel as good as I did when I first came in. I want to be involved as much as possible, week to week and in training.

“I know what’s expected here and I’m ready to deliver that.”

Known for his energetic style, Norman says supporters can expect a committed and dynamic approach on the pitch.

“I’m up and down all game. I pride myself on my fitness. I want to be as good going forward as I am defending.

“I’m combative, I like to get involved, and if we need to dig in, I want to be one of the leaders that sets that tone.”

The 30-year-old also highlighted the importance of returning to an environment he understands well.

“It just felt right at this stage of my career. I spoke to the manager and the conversations we had aligned with what I wanted and what the team needs.

“That clarity was important, and I’m really excited to get going again.”

Norman also had a message for the supporters as he prepares for life back in amber.

“It’s one of real excitement. I hope I can deliver as I did before.

“You can always expect 100% commitment. I want to be that infectious character in the dressing room and on the pitch.

“I’m excited for the season, and I want the fans to be as well.”
