Dafydd Williams | It's not good enough

Interim head coach Dafydd Williams provided an honest assessment following his side’s 4-1 defeat to Tranmere Rovers.

Shane McLoughlin opened the scoring for County but Jake Garrett’s deflected strike drew the visitors level before the end of the half.

A flurry of second half goals from the visitors and a red card for Kai Whitmore condemned defeat for the Exiles.

"We've finished in a position we deserve to and that's not good enough for this club,” said Williams post-match.

"That has to be a reality check for those that are still here next year. A lot of it is unacceptable and a lot needs to change to go forward as a club.

"We were excellent for 25 minutes but after the goal we went back into default mode.

"Our approach got us the goal, attacking outcomes, playing into the final third, we were aggressive, on the front foot, played down the side for territory, more crosses and shots.

"Then we went into default mode and went completely off script. We were so naive, soft and that second half summed up our season. It was immature, naive and just not good enough.”

There was a moment of promise when academy graduate Moses Alexander-Walker was introduced at 2-1, with the teenager making a positive impact, despite going down to ten men later.

"Momentum shifted, we were on top, the dynamic of the game changed and then there was the red card,” he added.

“You can't defend it. It's immature and a lack of nous and experience. It's not good enough and after that we were chasing our tails.”
