Moses Alexander-Walker paid a heartfelt thanks to his family and the academy staff who have aided his development after he made his first team debut against Tranmere Rovers.

The 17-year-old came off the bench during the closing stages of Saturday’s League Two fixture, having risen through the ranks of the club’s under-18s this season

A strong, powerful and attacking forward, Alexander-Walker’s family were in attendance to see him make his Exiles bow.

And the youngster could not hide his delight or emotions at making the debut for the club.

“It was a really good feeling to make my debut,” he said. “All my family were there watching, and it's a day that’s been a long time coming—from when I first started playing football.

“It's something I've thought about a lot, so it’s a really good day, a special day.

“Today means everything. My dad's been at the side of the pitch since I was, what, two or three years old. My mum’s been there as well—she’s taken me all across the country to play football. So it’s a really special thing for them, and for me as well.

“I think I’ve been consistent this season, and the team around me has helped build my confidence. That’s allowed me to express myself more, and it’s brought me to this point. I was given an opportunity, and I took it—so it’s been good.

“This season my confidence has improved a lot. I’ve had a lot of help with that—extra training and support—and I think it’s showing now. When I get into situations, I use my body well, and today was a good day to show that. I think I did.”

Academy manager Luke Hussey has played a pivotal role in Alexander-Walker’s development. Having first worked with him at Bristol City, Hussey reconnected with the forward at Newport County and has been a key mentor ever since.

Alexander-Walker has had an impressive campaign with the under-18s this season, helping the side reach the FAW Youth Cup semi-final. Known for his work ethic and dedication, he has continued to grow under Hussey’s guidance.

“He’s been a really big help. I’ve known Luke since I was nine, when I first signed for Bristol City, and all the way up until now,” he added.

“He’s a really honest, nice guy—he’s helped me a lot. I know he wants the best for me, and he pushes me, so I’m really grateful to have him as a coach.

“Now it’s just about going hard in pre-season, making sure I come back firing, and trying to get more opportunities to play. I want to play more first-team football next season—that’s the plan."
