Newport County defender Dan Sassi says he is “so happy” to be joining the club after completing his move ahead of the 2026-27 season.

The centre-back arrives at Rodney Parade ready to begin a new chapter in his career after gaining valuable experience within several academy and first-team environments in the English game.

Speaking in his first interview as a Newport County player, Sassi said he cannot wait to get started.

“Yeah, so happy to be here. I just can’t wait to get going.”

Sassi developed within academy systems at Stoke City and Burnley before continuing his progression at Blackpool, where he has trained and worked within senior environments alongside experienced professionals.

He says those early experiences have played a key role in shaping him as a player.

“Massive. You meet a lot of people in football and work with so many people at those clubs. You just try to take information from all of them, and it definitely helps you in the long run.”

The 22-year-old defender has already been exposed to the demands of senior football and believes that experience will be important as he steps into the EFL with Newport County.

“The physicality is something I know I’m going to need playing here as well. I’ve learned a lot on and off the pitch being in first-team environments, so those are things I’m going to bring here and implement.”

Known for his aggressive defending and front-foot style, Sassi says supporters can expect a committed and proactive approach on the pitch.

“I’d say I’m on the front foot, aggressive, give 100%, good in the air, and I like to play as well.”

Looking ahead to the new season, the defender is focused on making an impact and contributing to the team’s success at Rodney Parade.

“I’m here to be successful with the club. I can’t wait to play in front of the fans and hear them get behind us on a matchday.”
