This weekend, the Exiles head north to face Accrington Stanley at their iconic home, the Wham Stadium (sometimes still referred to as the Crown Ground). Below is your away-day guide to make the most of the trip, brought to you by the Turmeric Co.
Accrington Stanley compete in red, and they’ve called the Wham Stadium home since 1968. The venue has a capacity of around 5,450 (3,100 seated) and is known for its compact, atmospheric nature. Newport County will be wearing their home kit for this fixture.
Away Supporters
Visiting fans are housed in the Coppice Terrace, an uncovered standing area at one end of the ground. If demand is high, some supporters may also be accommodated in the Eric Whalley Stand, where part of the seating is reserved for away fans.
Getting There & Parking
The ground’s postcode is BB5 5BX, and it’s worth noting that the main stadium car park is small and fills up quickly, so arriving early is encouraged. For those unable to park on-site, there is a field adjacent to the stadium that operates as a matchday car park, and street parking is also available nearby.
By Train / Walking
The nearest railway station is Accrington, which is about a 15-minute walk to the ground. From the station, supporters can follow local paths and roads toward the stadium. For those who prefer not to walk, taxis are also an option, though local traffic can slow things down close to kick-off.
Stadium Atmosphere & Considerations
The Wham Stadium is well regarded for its intimate and roaring feel, especially when the opposition brings a vocal away support. The Coppice Terrace, while uncovered, offers excellent views of the pitch. Conditions can be exposed to weather, so be prepared.
Away fans in the Eric Whalley Stand benefit from cover and seating — a preferred choice for those wanting shelter. Toilets, bars, and better facilities are positioned behind the Eric Whalley Stand.
Flags are permitted under Accrington’s guidelines, provided they do not block views, cover advertisements, or obstruct access routes.
Safe travels to everyone making the journey with us. Let’s make some noise in Lancashire!
