The Exiles are back on the road this weekend as we head to the SMH Group Stadium, home of Chesterfield FC. Here’s all you need to know ahead of the trip, brought to you by the Turmeric Co.
Chesterfield, known as the Spireites, were founded in 1866 and are one of the oldest clubs in English football. Their nickname and crest are inspired by the town’s famous Crooked Spire, a symbol of the area’s heritage. After lifting the National League title in 2023/24, Chesterfield are back competing in League Two, and they’ll provide tough opposition for County this weekend.
Their home ground, the SMH Group Stadium, has a capacity of 10,200 and first opened in 2010. It’s just five minutes from the town centre and also serves as a hub for the club’s community work through the Chesterfield FC Community Trust.

By Car: From the M1, leave at Junction 29 and take the A617 for around seven miles. At the end of the road, join the A61 dual carriageway before turning onto Sheffield Road (B6057). The stadium is on the left, just past Tesco.
Parking: Stadium parking is £12 per game but must be pre-booked. Alternative parking is available at Tesco Chesterfield Extra (100m from the stadium) via Your Parking Space. Limited disabled parking can be arranged by contacting the club ticket office.
By Rail: The nearest station is Chesterfield, around a 30-minute walk. Follow the Stonegravels Way footpath past Chesterfield College and the Casa Hotel until you reach Lockoford Lane, where the stadium will be in view. A taxi from the station costs around £7.
Food & Drink
The stadium concourses serve a range of hot food, including locally baked pies and sausage rolls (£4.50), alongside pints of lager (£5.50) and soft drinks (£3.50).
For those looking for a pre-match pint, The Red Lion (Whittington Moor) is the designated away pub. It’s a family-friendly venue, just ten minutes from the ground, and also provides space for away coach parking.
Flags and Banners
Chesterfield allow flags and banners, provided they do not exceed 8ft x 4ft, have the required fire safety certification, and don’t obstruct views or advertising. Anything offensive or inappropriate will not be permitted.
