Newport County AFC are delighted to welcome Sven Sprangler to the club, with the former Austrian Under-21 international midfielder joining on loan from Scottish Championship side St Johnstone until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.
Born in Bruck an der Mur, Sprangler turns 31 next month and brings a wealth of experience to Rodney Parade. Capped by Austria at every age-group level below the senior side, he has amassed 352 senior appearances since beginning his professional career with SV Mattersburg in 2012.
The versatile midfielder has since featured for TSV Hartberg, Wolfsberger AC and SK Vorwärts Steyr, gaining extensive experience across the Austrian Bundesliga and lower tiers before moving to Scotland in 2023. He joined St Johnstone on a two-year deal at McDiarmid Park and has made 21 appearances this season, scoring once and providing one assist.
Comfortable operating as a defensive midfielder or at right-back, Sprangler adds both quality and flexibility to Christian Fuchs’ squad as the Exiles approach the latter stages of the campaign.
Everyone at Newport County would like to welcome Sven to Rodney Parade and wish him every success during his time with the club.
