Five Academy Players Sign First Professional Contracts with Newport County

Academy Graduates 2025-26

Newport County AFC are proud to announce that Riley Lonergan, Moses Alexander-Walker, Morgan Evans, Corey Evans, and Sam Watkins have all signed their first professional contracts with the club.

 

The quintet – all of whom have progressed through the ranks at the Academy, have been rewarded for their hard work, dedication, and standout performances across recent seasons with professional terms ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

 

Moses Alexander-Walker

Moses is a dynamic wide forward with a flair for taking on defenders and delivering pinpoint crosses. Joining Newport County from Bristol City at the U16 level, Moses has brought his creative spark and relentless work ethic to the academy. Known for his pace and ability to cut inside from the wing, Moses is a constant threat in attacking transitions and a valuable asset in wide areas. He made his debut coming off the bench during the last game of the 2024-25 season at home against Tranmere Rovers.

 

Corey Evans

Corey is a creative attacking midfielder who signed for Newport County from Bristol City at U16. With a flair for the spectacular, Corey is known for his dribbling, precise passing, and an eye for goal. His ability to link play between midfield and attack has made him an integral part of the academy's creative force. Corey was also awarded the LFE Goal of the Month for March, after a stunning strike against Gillingham.

 

Morgan Evans

Morgan is a versatile player who excels as a full-back but can also operate effectively as a wide forward. As a second-year scholar, Morgan showcased his adaptability and tactical intelligence, contributing both defensively and offensively. His energy and willingness to support the attack make him a dynamic option in various roles.

 

Riley Lonergan

Riley is a skilful midfielder and a product of Newport County’s academy. As a second-year scholar, Riley has developed into a dynamic presence in midfield, combining defensive tenacity with creative passing. His work rate and ability to control the tempo of the game have made him a key figure in the academy setup.

 

Sam Watkins

Sam is a committed full-back and a second-year scholar who has come through Newport County’s academy. Renowned for his solid defensive work and ability to support attacks, Sam combines athleticism with a strong understanding of the game. His consistency and determination have made him a valuable member of the squad.

 

The promotion of these five young players reflects the club’s continued commitment to developing talent from within, and they now take the next steps in their football journey as part of David Hughes’ senior squad.
