Hayden Mullins spoke to the media following Newport County's 0-0 draw against Gillingham, stating that he was pleased with today's performance.

“I am pleased with the performance. It’s a tough game; they’re a good side.

“They have scored five in their last two home games, so we knew it would be a tough game.

“But being honest, a little bit disappointed we didn't nick it. I think we had a few chances where I think we could have maybe done a bit better with a few of them.

“But I just told the group that the performance is key. We perform like that away from home and
I think we could put in more wins than we will lose.”

Mullins also spoke on County's current unbeaten streak and how it is benefiting the team's mentality.

“We’re five unbeaten now, which is good, and that's positive.

"And I just spoke to the lads in there; it feels like a strong group, it feels really good. The atmosphere is good within the lads, and it's competitive.

“It's a really good platform to build on. I think two of the last two away games, to not concede, keep clean sheets, it was a very big bonus and a big reward for the lads who put in a really good shift."

Shaquille Gwengwe was the only change in the starting eleven from Newport's win against Grimsby Town last weekend, with the Newport manager speaking on his absence.

“Gwengwe has picked up a bit of a bug, so from last Saturday we haven't seen Shaq all week.

"He trained Thursday for the first time coming Friday, coming yesterday, and he wasn't too well at all, and he's got a stomach bug.

"As does Kieran Evans, he felt a little bit unwell with a bit of stomach issues.

“You have to be careful. Another game Tuesday, which is good. So we'll have a look at it after today and see where we sit with that.

Mullins also spoke on the fans' support and showed his appreciation for the fans that made the long trip.

“They were fantastic, absolutely brilliant. We really do appreciate that, you in this sport, especially when they come so far away, you know, to come and support the lads, it's a long, long trip, long, long trip back.

“Hopefully, a point was good enough for the fans today. You know, we'd have loved to have given them three points."
