Newport County goalkeeper Jake Turner says he is ready to use his experience to help the club as he begins life at Rodney Parade.
The 27-year-old joined Newport County this week and has already spent several days around his new teammates, having previously worked with manager Hayden Mullins during their time at Colchester United.
Turner believes that familiarity with the manager was an important factor in his decision to make the move to Newport County.
"Obviously, I know the manager from my time at Colchester, so I think speaking to him, and obviously being around the training ground for the last few days, I think I can bring quite a bit to the team," Turner said.
"Obviously, try and get into the team first, help them in training, and yeah, I think from my experience, and obviously what the team's done so far, I think it's a good fit for me."
Turner knows what Mullins expects from him and is keen to bring his experience to a County side that has made a positive start to the season.
"I think I'm a shot-stopping goalkeeper. I'm allowed to try and make sure everyone, when called upon, I think I'll show quite a good communicator," he said.
"I'll try and organise the team as much as I can and try and make me have as little to do as possible.
"But like I say, everyone called upon, I'll try and help them out. Distribution-wise, obviously, they play quite direct, so I think I'll be able to hit the striker, the areas that we need, and command my area and stuff."
The new goalkeeper describes himself as a commanding presence and believes his communication can be one of his biggest strengths.
"I think I'm quite commanding in my area," he said.
"Like I said before, when called upon, hopefully I can apply myself to the game, going quite solid.
"My communication skills, I think, are quite big for me, so obviously that'll help."
Turner has already experienced the atmosphere around Rodney Parade and has been impressed by the support from the Amber Army.
"Every time that I remember, it's been noisy," he said.
"Fans have been seeing good things from the pre-season games, especially the Roma one and the first game of the season. I've heard a really nice one.
"I'm looking forward to playing in front of them."
And Turner's message to the County supporters is simple as he looks ahead to the season.
"Just stick with us," he said.
"Obviously, tough season, long season. Hopefully you'll enjoy the ride and, yeah, let's go."
