Newport County defender Joe Thomas took part in a special session of Walking Football this week as part of the EFL Week of Action, helping to inspire local participants and promote inclusive football opportunities across the city.
The event, organised by County in the Community, brought together fans of all ages and abilities for a fun, social, and accessible version of the game. Thomas joined in with the session, offering tips, encouragement, and sharing his experiences as a professional footballer with the participants.
Mark O’Brien, who has worked closely with Walking Football this season, said: “It was fantastic to see Joe joining in and engaging with the group. Walking Football is a brilliant way for people to stay active, enjoy football, and connect with others. The energy from everyone today was amazing, and it’s great to see football bringing the community together in this way.”
The EFL Week of Action celebrates the work of football club charities across England and Wales, highlighting the impact that clubs have in their local communities. Newport County and County in the Community use these sessions to engage with fans, provide coaching opportunities, and promote healthy lifestyles for people of all ages.
