Kieran Evans relishes Newport County return after permanent move

Midfielder Kieran Evans says returning to Newport County on a permanent deal was something he “really wanted to do” as he looks to take the next step in his career at Rodney Parade.

Evans is back in amber following a previous loan spell with the club and a season at Eastleigh, and admits the move was an easy decision once the opportunity arose.

“I can’t really describe it. It’s something I really wanted to do. Coming here before on loan, it was something I really wanted, not just for me but for my family as well. I’m buzzing to be back.”

The midfielder spent a full season on loan at Newport County, an experience he says gave him a strong understanding of the club and what it means to represent the Exiles.

“I was here for the full year. It was a bit of a tricky season, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I really enjoyed playing in front of the fans and playing for this club. I know what it means to play for this team.”

Evans is familiar to supporters for his role in midfield during his previous spell, often operating in a deeper position, but says he is comfortable playing in a number of roles.

“I was probably more known for playing in a deeper role. That’s where I played most of my football for Newport. I can play anywhere in midfield and out wide as well.”

Now returning with more experience, Evans believes he is a more mature player than during his first spell at Rodney Parade.

“Definitely. I feel more mature and more experienced now. I just can’t wait to get going.”

He also outlined what supporters can expect from him on the pitch.

“I’m really calm on the ball. I like to keep things ticking over. If I play further forward, I like to go and beat players, but if I play deeper, I’ll get on the ball and help us play. I’ll always give everything for the badge.”

Evans is also looking forward to reconnecting with the Amber Army at Rodney Parade.

“I loved playing here on loan. That was the main thing, playing at Rodney Parade in front of these fans. To be back here again is brilliant. I just want the fans to get behind us and hopefully we can give them something to cheer about.”
