Lee Jenkins | I want to give everything for this club

New signing Lee Jenkins says he’s ready to embrace the challenge of Sky Bet League Two football after putting pen to paper at Newport County.

The 23-year-old defender joins the Exiles following a strong grounding in the Cymru Premier and is eager to get started with his new club, where he hopes to make an instant impact both on and off the pitch.

Speaking for the first time as a County player, Jenkins shared his excitement about the move and what convinced him that Rodney Parade was the right destination for this next step in his career

“I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead. I can’t wait for the season to start now,” he said.

“When I heard of Newport’s interest, I didn’t think twice. It was great to know clubs in the English pyramid were watching me and once County came in, it was an easy decision."

Jenkins has spent several years developing in the top tier of Welsh football and says that grounding has given him the tools to succeed as he makes the transition into League Two.

“I’ve been playing regularly in the Cymru Premier for a few seasons and it’s helped me grow massively. Coming to Newport means I get to stay in Wales but test myself in a new environment. It’s a great honour to join this club.”

When asked to describe himself as a player, Jenkins kept it simple:

“I’m an old-school defender — I love to head, kick, and tackle. I bring energy to the game and I enjoy putting my body on the line for the team.”

The move to Newport was also influenced by positive talks with Manager David Hughes, who outlined a clear vision for the club and Jenkins’ place in it.

“I’ve played a lot of football in Wales and I felt like now was the right time for a new challenge,” Jenkins added.

“After speaking with the gaffer, it was clear he has big ambitions for the club. He spoke really well about what he wants to build here, and I want to be part of that.”

Looking ahead to the new campaign, Jenkins is keen to contribute at both ends of the pitch:

“I’ve chipped in with a few goals over the years and I’d love to add to that here. But most of all, I want to help the team finish as high up the table as possible and make the fans proud.”

And it's those fans he’s most excited to meet.

“I’ve seen the support County get and how loud it can be at Rodney Parade. That really stood out to me and I’m buzzing to play in front of those fans.”
