Cup fever returns as Newport County welcome Walsall to Rodney Parade for the first round of the FA Cup this Saturday (November 7).
Newport will be looking to reach where they left off last season as they look to progress to the second round, whereas Walsall will want another good cup run as they made it to the third round in their previous campaign.
Here's everything you need to know about our opponents.
The Opposition
Walsall have had a great start to the season as they currently sit third in League Two, sitting on 22 points.
However, last season was one to forget for the Saddlers as they dropped out of the playoffs and finished in 13th place on 65 points.
They also had a good FA Cup run last season as they progressed to the third round of the FA Cup after defeating Eastleigh and Gateshead before losing 5-1 to Norwich.
The EFL Cup didn't go their way after a goalless draw against Stoke City went to penalties, with Walsall ultimately being knocked out.
FA Cup Memories
During the 1974/75 season, Walsall made it to the Round of 16 before ultimately being knocked out by Birmingham City. However, the Saddlers managed to beat Newcastle United the round before and Manchester United in a replay.
Walsall also made it to the round of 16 during the 1986/87 season before losing 1-0 to Watford in a replay. The Saddlers did manage to beat Birmingham, Charlton Athletic and Port Vale in previous rounds.
The 2001/02 season saw Walsall progress to the round of 16 once again before being knocked out by Fulham. The Saddlers did defeat Charlton and Bradford City.
The Manager
The current manager of Walsall is Lee Grant.
Grant's coaching career began at Ipswich Town as he became a first-team coach shortly after retiring from his playing career.
Before managing Walsall, Grant was given the opportunity to manage Huddersfield Town but was sacked after eight months.
However, since May, Grant has managed Walsall, where he has only lost one game in the league.
Ones To Watch
Aaron Pressley has been on top form so far this season as he has scored ten goals in 15 games in all competitions. The striker has also scored four in his last three matches and will be looking to get off to a perfect start in the FA Cup.
Mason Hancock has been a key figure for Walsall this season as he has been a prominent presence in their backline. The full-back has three assists so far, with two coming in the last two games. The defender will be aiming to help the Saddlers keep another clean sheet on Saturday.
