County will look to extend their league unbeaten run to seven, while Rotherham will look to end their four-game winless streak.

Here is everything you need to know about our opponents.

The Opponents

The Millers finished 23rd last season in League One as they suffered relegation to League Two. The last time Rotherham were in League Two was during the 2012/13 season.

Rotherham were knocked out of the first round of the FA Cup as they suffered a 2-1 defeat away from home against Swindon Town.

The Millers did make it to the second round of the EFL Cup as they knocked out Salford City in the first round before being eliminated by Barnsley, suffering another 2-1 defeat.

So far this season, Rotherham sit in 23rd place, with ten points. The Millers also have struggled with the EFL Cup, being eliminated in the first round after losing 4-1 to West Brom.

The History

Rotherham United were formed in 1925 after local rivals Rotherham County and Rotherham Town merged into one team.

After promotion to Division Two, Rotherham enjoyed several successful seasons, finishing fifth in 1953/54 and narrowly missing out on promotion to Division One in 1954–55 on goal difference.

One of their greatest achievements came in the 1959/60 FA Cup, when they drew twice with Arsenal, including a replay at Highbury in front of 57,598 fans, before beating them 2–0 in a second replay at Hillsborough.

Through their history, they have enjoyed successful times at the club as they reached the first-ever League Cup final in 1961, before eventually losing 3–2 on aggregate to Aston Villa.

Under manager Jim McGuigan, the club won promotion in 1975 and narrowly missed out on another promotion in 1976–77, before Ian Porterfield led them to the Third Division title in 1980–81 with an unbeaten home record.

Alongside this success, they won the Fourth Division title in 1988–89, and Phil Henson later achieved promotion in 1992 and in April 1996.

They also won the EFL Trophy at Wembley in April 1996, beating Shrewsbury Town to secure a memorable trophy victory. They would win the trophy again in 2022.

The Manager

The current manager of Rotherham is Alex Bruce.

Bruce began his coaching career under his dad, Steve Bruce, where he was part of the coaching team for West Brom.

But, in October 2023, Bruce was appointed manager of Macclesfield Town where he stayed for four months before joining Salford as first-team coach.

However, since June 2026, Bruce has been the head coach of Rotherham.

Ones To Watch

Paul Mullin can be a goal-scoring threat for the Millers as he currently sits joint third in the top goal scorers of League Two. Mullin will be hoping to add to his goal tally at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, having scored two goals in his last two games when playing at home.

Josh Austerfield is another player to watch in the middle of the pitch. The attacking midfielder has already grabbed an assist this season but is capable of making plays, working hard and controlling the ball in the centre of the pitch.
