Match Report | Bristol Manor Farm 0-3 Newport County

Match Report

Newport County started their 2026-27 pre-season campaign with a victory against Bristol Manor Farm.

Two goals from Lewis Jamieson, as well as a strike from Matt Smith, gave The Exiles a winning start to the new season.

Chris Todd's first match in charge saw plenty of movement, with three different squads being played in 30-minute intervals.

The matchday squad included new signings Christian Doidge, Kyle Cameron, Shaquille Gwengwe and Dan Sassi, plus returnee Harrison Biggins.

The rest of the squad was a mixture of first-team players, trialists and academy graduates.

Their opponents, who play in the eighth tier of English football, also included former County player Jac Norris amongst their line-up.

A bumper crowd assembled at The Creek, with many in black-and-amber crossing the Bristol Channel to catch a glimpse of the new-look County team.

Early on, Manor Farm looked to trouble their EFL counterparts, with Shaun MacDonald called into action to prevent a cross from going in.

The first chance for the visitors came when Tom Davies narrowly shot wide from inside the area.

Lewis Jamieson almost opened the scoring shortly afterwards, but was denied by a smart save from the Farm shotstopper.

County set their stall early in the second-half, with two more early chances for Jamieson.

Firstly, another save denied the Scot from close range, before he was put through on the counter-attack and beat the goalkeeper, but couldn't keep the shot on target.

However, he would get a goal - his first for the club - when he slotted home in the middle of the area to break the deadlock.

On the hour-mark, he doubled County's advantage after being in the right place for a deflected effort.

With Newport's personnel rapidly changed, the away side continued to have chances; Ged Garner swung a free-kick over the bar shortly after Jamieson's second.

Shaquille Gwangwe came close to bagging a goal on his debut, but couldn't find the net after being set up by Cole Jarvis.

The third came from a set-piece, with a short corner being dummied by CiarĂ¡n Brennan into the path of Matt Smith, who blasted through a congested six-yard box to seal the result for Newport.

County eased through the remainder of the game to pick up an early win in their schedule, as well as getting valuable minutes in the legs of several key players.
