Newport County held Fleetwood Town to a 0-0 draw as they edged a point closer to safety.
It was the home side who had by far the most chances of the game, but Jordan Wright was able to prevent any of Fleetwood’s shots from finding the net.
County saw few chances in the game, with the closest coming from Courtney Baker-Richardson after his one-on-one effort was blocked.
Christian Fuchs made three changes to the starting side that suffered defeat to Cambridge last weekend.
Anthony Glennon came in for Tom Davies, with Joe Thomas and James Crole making way for Michael Spellman and Nathaniel Opoku.
Bobby Kamwa and Matt Smith also returned to the squad following their absences.
Matt Lawlor also made changes to his side that narrowly defeated Barrow.
Harrison Neal replaced Matthew Virtue, while both strikers were swapped, with Will Davies and Owen Devonport making way for Ched Evans and Detlef Osong.
It was Elliot Bonds who had the first attempt of the game following a free-kick from distance, with his strike being deflected and easily collected by Wright.
The Exiles’ first effort on goal shortly followed as Ben Lloyd played the ball to Glennon outside the box, but his curling shot went just over the bar.
Mitchell Clark and Ethan Ennis created a constant threat to Newport’s box within the first 15 minutes, with multiple crosses delivered but no shots able to get through the defence.
Clark soon had a great chance on goal as he found himself with a header from eight yards out, but the opportunity went astray as the effort drifted wide.
It was once again Glennon who created another opportunity for County as his free-kick almost found a teammate in the box, but Jay Lynch rushed out and collected the ball.
However, it was The Fishermen who showed more dominance as Ennis’ attempt from the right-hand side of the box hit the post, with another of his chances being saved by Wright.
Just before the end of the first half, Mark Helm sprinted through the Newport box before finding Evans, who struck the ball with power, but it narrowly went wide.
Once again, it was the home side with the opening chance of the second half as Evans had a close-range effort, but Wright kept the scores level.
Ten minutes into the second half, Sven Sprangler played Baker-Richardson through on the left-hand side, but his cross was unable to find anyone and ultimately went out of play.
Baker-Richardson continued to show promise as a mistake in the Fleetwood back line left the striker one-on-one, but his shot was blocked at the last second.
The Exiles continued to push as they searched for the opener, with Harrison Biggins’ looping corner almost finding the net, but Lynch was able to deal with it.
As the final ten minutes approached, the home side looked set to break through on goal, but a sliding challenge from Cameron Evans intercepted the pass and cleared the danger.
Ged Garner attempted an effort in the closing minutes of added time, but his shot went wide, with James Crole unable to get on the end of it.
Fleetwood also had a chance in the dying moments as Josh Powell crossed low to Davies, who found himself in space, but his effort went wide.
The result leaves Newport bottom of the table but brings them a point closer to escaping relegation.
