Newport County made it two wins from two in pre-season with a commanding 5-0 victory over Newport City in front of a sold-out crowd of 1,100 at Spytty Park.
Making their first appearance in the club's new 2026-27 home kit, featuring a tribute to the Newport County Hall of Fame, Chris Todd's side produced another polished display following Saturday's 3-0 win over Bristol Manor Farm.
The evening also saw the first appearances for new signings Yahya Bamba, Cameron Norman and Kieron Evans, while former County favourite Robbie Willmott took charge of Newport City for the first time at home against his old club.
County needed just three minutes to break the deadlock. Kieron Evans found space between the Newport City defence before unselfishly squaring for Yahya Bamba, who calmly rolled the ball into an empty net to mark his debut with a goal.
Bamba enjoyed a lively opening spell, using his pace to repeatedly trouble the Newport City defence, and was unfortunate not to win a penalty before the 10-minute mark after appearing to be hauled down inside the area.
The visitors continued to dominate. Matt Smith's dangerous free-kick was flicked towards goal by Ciaran Brennan but drifted just wide before Lewis Jamieson volleyed over following one of Cameron Norman's trademark long throws.
County continued to create chances as Christian Doidge saw his powerful downward header well saved from Tom Davies' corner before Brennan's long-range effort took a deflection and flashed narrowly wide.
Following the first hydration break, Todd made his opening changes with Cole Jarvis, Joe Thomas and Trialist A entering the action.
Jarvis almost made an immediate impact when he headed over from Davies' inviting cross, but the substitute would not have to wait long for his moment.
On the stroke of half-time, Jamieson beat his man down the left before delivering a composed pass across the six-yard box for Jarvis to tap home against his former club and double County's advantage.
The second half brought another wave of changes, with Shaquille Gwengwe, Harrison Halpin, Lee Jenkins, Trialist B, Moses Alexander-Walker, Harrison Biggins and Ged Garner all introduced.
County maintained complete control after the restart. Gwengwe almost marked his debut with a goal as his early volley was comfortably gathered before Alexander-Walker was denied one-on-one by the Newport City goalkeeper after being played through by Garner.
Jarvis then glanced Joe Thomas' cross narrowly wide before making way for Keenan Patten just after the hour mark.
County finally grabbed their third in the 68th minute. Alexander-Walker's effort was parried into the path of Gwengwe, who reacted quickest to tap home his first Newport County goal.
The striker was soon celebrating again.
Excellent combination play between Gwengwe and Garner sent the latter through on goal, and although his initial effort was saved, Gwengwe was on hand to convert the rebound and make it 4-0.
Gwengwe completed an impressive hat-trick 10 minutes from time. Slick one-touch football worked the ball wide to Trialist B, whose perfectly weighted cross was met by Gwengwe with a composed header into the far corner.
The forward thought he had a fourth moments later when he powered home another header, only for the assistant referee's flag to rule it out for offside, while Biggins was denied a spectacular late goal as his powerful strike from distance was pushed away.
It proved to be another productive evening for Newport County, who delivered an accomplished display at Spytty Park to continue their positive preparations for the 2026-27 campaign.
