Newport County were defeated 0-1 by Salford City at Rodney Parade in this evening's Sky Bet League Two clash.
An Adebola Oluwo volley put the Ammies in the lead early in the second half and was the sole goal of this evening's outing.
The Exiles’ first opportunity of the game came from a Lee Jenkins throw-in that was flicked on by Cameron Evans into the six-yard-box, but the ball was dealt with well by the Salford defence as it was swiftly cleared.
Salford City had a chance of their own as Luke Garbutt’s free-kick found the head of Adebola Oluwu at the front post but the tower defender fired the ball over the bar.
The Ammies came close again as Garbutt’s free-kick rattled off the crossbar and Nik Tzanev caught the followed-up header to prevent the visitors from breaking the deadlock.
Micahel Reindorf intercepted the ball on the halfway line and carried the ball to the edge of the box, opening himself up for a shot but the curling effort was kept out by Matty Young’s reaching save which saw the end of quite first half.
Half-Time
The visitors opened the score early in the first half as Oluwo’s first time volley found the bottom corner of Tzanev’s goal.
Matt Smith controlled the ball brilliantly inside the box but was unable convert the opportunity as Young was fast off his line to smother the chance out.
Michael Spellman tried his luck from range, but the winger’s low effort was dragged wide.
Salford’s Harris also attempted a long-ranged effort but fired his shot over the bar which saw the end of another quiet half.
