Newport County produced an outstanding performance to secure a 4-1 victory over Chesterfield at Rodney Parade, extending their unbeaten run in Sky Bet League Two to seven matches.

With several injury concerns within the squad, Hayden Mullins made three changes to the side that travelled to Cheltenham Town last weekend, with Tom Davies, Matt Smith and Kion Etete all returning to the starting XI.

County made a positive start to proceedings, with captain Kyle Cameron going close in the opening stages after meeting a corner with a powerful header, which narrowly missed the target.

The hosts continued to apply pressure, creating further opportunities through a series of dangerous deliveries into the penalty area. Michael Adu-Poku was next to test the Chesterfield defence, although his effort was comfortably gathered by Zach Hemming.

The breakthrough arrived inside the opening 15 minutes as Cameron Norman marked his return to the scoresheet with a superb free-kick, opening his account since rejoining the club in the summer.

The Exiles quickly doubled their advantage, with Norman delivering a low cross into the penalty area. Following a scramble, the ball fell kindly to Davies, who made no mistake from close range to register his first goal for the club.

At the other end, Matt Smith produced an excellent defensive block to deny Chesterfield an opportunity to reduce the deficit, preserving County's two-goal cushion.

Mullins' side continued to dominate and added a third through Harrison Biggins. Finding space on the edge of the penalty area, the midfielder struck a low, driven effort beyond Hemming and into the bottom corner.

Chesterfield briefly threatened to find a response when Jordan Wright was beaten, but the assistant referee's flag ruled out the effort for offside.

Wright was called into action again moments later as Josh Koroma connected with a cross, but the County goalkeeper safely gathered his header.

On the stroke of half-time, County extended their advantage to four. Bamba regained possession in a dangerous area before producing an outstanding finish, curling the ball into the top corner to cap a dominant first-half display.

The Exiles headed into the interval firmly in control, having established a commanding four-goal lead.

Chesterfield began the second half with greater attacking intent and pulled a goal back through Liam Mandeville, whose effort struck the post before finding its way into the net.

The visitors looked to build on their goal and reduce the deficit further, but County's defensive unit remained organised, producing several important blocks to prevent further opportunities.

Biggins came close to adding his second of the evening when Kieron Evans delivered the ball into the penalty area. The midfielder brought it under control before striking from just outside the box, although his effort sailed over the crossbar.

Ciaran Brennan also threatened to get on the scoresheet after Cameron Evans' effort was deflected into his path, but his subsequent attempt flashed narrowly wide.

County saw out the remainder of the contest to secure an impressive 4-1 victory, extending their unbeaten league run to seven matches and delivering another memorable evening in front of the Rodney Parade faithful.
